Using the Reset Function

Overview

The Reset button in Benchly allows users to return their document to its original state, removing all processing, marking, and citations added by Benchly. This is particularly useful when starting fresh, selecting a new style manual, or resolving issues caused by legacy content.

How to Use the Reset Function

  1. Locate the Reset Button:
    • Open the Benchly ribbon in Microsoft Word.
    • Click the Reset button.

  1. Confirm the Reset Action:
    • A confirmation prompt will appear, asking you to confirm the reset process.

    • Click Yes to proceed with resetting the document.
  1. Reset Process:
    • Once confirmed, Benchly will:
      • Remove all TA entries/field codes and hyperlinks from the document.
      • Restore the document to a pre-scanned state.

Best Practices

  1. Reset Before Reprocessing:
    • If you are sharing a document that Benchly has previously processed or working with copied text from legacy documents, use the Reset function before initiating the Find operation.
  2. Select a New Style Manual:
    • Use the Reset function to clear previous settings if you wish to select a different style manual for citation formatting.
  3. Verify After Resetting:
    • Once the reset process is complete, confirm that all previous Benchly entries have been removed before starting a new operation.

Troubleshooting

  • Residual Markings:
    • If any TA entries or field codes remain, run the Reset process again or manually remove them using Word’s editing tools.
  • Issues with Legacy Documents:
    • Always reset legacy documents that have been processed by Benchly before initiating a new operation to avoid conflicts.
      • This can also be accomplished by clicking Find, as the Find function checks for existing TA entries and metadata before processing.
